Beyond Addiction: A Program That Truly Integrates Mind, Body, and Spirit

This post is part of a new series featuring programs and tools I’ve studied, tested, and trust — the ones that consistently deliver real change.

Today, I’m highlighting Beyond Addiction: The Yogic Path to Recovery.

As a therapist, I’ve spent years examining the roots of addiction, not just in the form of substances, but in patterns of thought, emotional reactivity, control, and the limiting stories we carry.

And, as a Kundalini yoga instructor, I’ve also seen how body-based practices can unlock transformation in ways that talk therapy alone can’t always reach.

Beyond Addiction is a rare program that integrates everything in a comprehensive, grounded, and authentic way.

Whether you’re dealing with substance use or caught in the grip of old emotional patterns, compulsive thinking, or behaviors that no longer serve you, this program offers a full, embodied path forward.

What This Program Includes

Created by Sat Dharam Kaur ND and integrating the work of trauma expert Dr. Gabor Maté, Beyond Addiction is a 16-session recovery program designed to nourish and rewire the entire system — mind, body, and spirit. It blends:

  • Kundalini Yoga practices, breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation
  • Self-inquiry, reflection, and group support
  • Lifestyle, dietary guidance, and naturopathic detox strategies
  • Herbal and nutritional support for neurotransmitter and glandular balance
  • In-depth video teachings from Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry method

The program has also been approved for 42 CEUs by the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation.

What Makes This Approach Different

This isn’t a quick course or a yoga class dressed up as therapy.

It is a robust, well-structured program that addresses addiction from every angle — physiological, emotional, cognitive, and relational.

Gabor Maté’s presence is felt throughout.

His videos are extensive and deeply impactful, offering clear insights into the roots of addiction, the role of trauma, and how to work with unconscious patterns that keep us stuck.

Everything is presented with care and depth, from the curriculum to the facilitation and pacing.

It is rare to find something so complete and so thoughtfully put together.

Who This Is For

You do not need to be in recovery from substance use to benefit.

Many participants come because they feel trapped in cycles of anger, control, reactivity, people-pleasing, or self-judgment.

Others are recovering from behavioral addictions or long-standing emotional patterns.

But if you are in recovery from substance use, the program requires a minimum of 40 days of sobriety before starting. That requirement reflects the depth of the work, not just its intensity.

Why I Recommend This Program

I took this training as part of my addiction studies, and it stands out as one of the most comprehensive and well-executed programs I’ve encountered.

It came with more support materials than anything else I’ve seen, including extensive videos, tools, and practices.

The instructor, Sat Dharam Kaur, brought a rare combination of depth and clarity to this training.

Her commitment to this work was unmistakable.

She spoke with conviction, not from theory but from lived experience, and had a way of breaking down complex ideas about trauma, addiction, and healing into language that actually landed.

You could tell she’s spent years walking this path, not just teaching it from a distance.

As a result, the group became remarkably close, and after the formal 16 weeks ended, we continued to meet weekly for another 16 weeks to revisit and integrate the material.

That cohesion level speaks to the program’s power and depth.

This isn’t a quick fix.

It’s a serious commitment for people ready for profound change — and it’s worth every bit of energy you put into it.
